The construction sector is the entrance into the labour market for many migrants, who find strong cultural and language barriers, and lack of knowledge about the national policies. In consequence, these workers have a higher potential to be exposed to work-related risk factors and labour market exclusion.

With this reality as a horizon, the project “In2C. Integration of Third-Country Nationals in the Construction sector” is born, with the aim to facilitate and foster early and effective integration of the migrants in the labour market of the construction sector, through an integrated training, which targets to enhance host country language skills in their job field, and networking with employers who participate in the Project.

Tools and activities for awareness and integration

In2C addresses the need to promote Swift integration of the third-country national into the labour market through strengthened cooperation and mobilisation of employers and social and economic partners (Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Sweden).

During the life of the Project -thirty months- several activities will be carried out in order to achieve its objectives, which will benefit workers, trainers and employers in the construction sector, as well as the rest of society. The milestones for this project to succeed are:

  • To detect the labour market needs and barriers for the effective integration of the migrant workers into the host country labour market in construction sector, and identification of good practices on labour market integration at European level.
  • To assess the learning level of third-country nationals on technical terminology of host country language, labour legislation and hygiene and safety issues at the workplace in order to empower them and promote their integration in the construction sector.
  • To develop post-training tools aiming to support in an interesting and interactive way enhancing skills and facilitating the labour market integration. In this sense, a training package for migrants will be developed -integrated by a platform, online tools and the Skills Online Assessment Tool (SOnAT)- in which a pilot training will be implemented both face-to-face and on the job, while the trained TCNs will have the opportunity to assess their skills through an online assessment tool and receive a certificate, which could be entered or uploaded in relevant EU platforms.
  • To promote the "Employers together for integration" network and mobilising employers to actively promote integration of migrants in their workforce through the development of virtual network and communication platform that aims to match employers with third-country nationals.
